Gallery 1 - Portrait Drawings: Pencil, Sanguine, Pastel
|
|
A selection of work completed in graphite, sanguine and
pastel - all drawings and all with their own unique appeal. These can be the ideal choice if a smaller portrait is preferred,
or if available reference photography is poor and Heather considers it unsuitable for a full portrait painting.
It is all a matter of choice - the drama of graphite, or
the softness of sanguine (a medium for which Heather is particularly linked - her love of the Conte sanguine medium having
lead to popular magazine articles, and sponsorship from Conte). Finally the effectiveness of simple pastel drawings - so favoured
as the medium of choice for children and pets.

| The Queen Mother; Graphite Pencil |
This portrait was completed as a commission for a large
Corporation for whom the Queen Mother was patron. The detail of the clothing and jewelry made graphite a perfect choice.

| Maria Bashkirtseff - Conte Sanguine |
Portrait of the 17th century Russian born artist, which
fully illustrates the softness and romance of the medium. Sanguine remains one of Heather's favourite mediums (and the
medium of choice for most of Heather's portrait courses and seminars).
