Here are some commonly asked
questions
What
is Commemorative Heirloom Portraiture
In the very
finest and oldest tradition an original painted portrait is both an heirloom and an excellent investment. Apart from its personal
value your portrait will increase in value in line with the artist's reputation and development. In addition to the portrait
itself, Heather can incorporate artefacts, treasured posessions, favourite toys, floral arrangements, badges of office etc.
into the design - making the portrait a very special document for posterity.
How
do I Commission my Portrait? Commissioning your portrait is a simple process. Contact Heather
either by email or phone to discuss your requirements in the first intance. You will be dealing directly with the artist
and can ask whatever questions you may have, and at the same time eliminate the dealers who would inflate the price of your
portrait.
Is
the Portrait done from life or from photographs? There are two methods by which to complete your portrait;
one is by agreeing to portrait 'sittings' and the other to complete the portrait from photographs and studies (or a mixture
of both). Heather can work equally as well to both briefs. Sittings can be difficult to arrange, are time consuming
and can increase the price of your portrait, but the opportunity to meet the subject and complete preliminary sketches and
photography is an advantage. Heather prefers to do her own studies and attendant photography, and to discuss the
results with the purchaser before making final decisions about the portrait. Of course when completing portraits of
children or animals photography is often the best way to proceed.
Can
I Commission Portrait as a surprise gift? Given the availabilty of adequate photography, it is possible
for Heather to produce a portrait for you as a surprise gift. This may be to commemorate a special occasion, an anniversary,
or even for Mother's Day -one of Heather's busiest periods.
How
long will my Portrait take to complete? Completion dates are usually agreed between yourself and Heather.
As an example - pencil and pastel work between 2 - 4 weeks, and oils from 6 -10 weeks - all depending on the complexity
of the commission.
How
Much will my Portrait Cost? Obviously cost is dependant on content and size. General guidelines based
on a single subject portrait: Prices in Euros.
